What is Invisalign?

Invisalign are custom made aligners created to help improve the appearance of your smile. The aligners are made of a nearly invisible, BPA-free plastic that can be worn over your teeth. Invisalign eliminates the need for brackets, wires and other uncomfortable metal straightening devices that are most commonly used by an orthodontist. The aligner trays gradually shift your teeth into their desired position without interfering with normal daily activities. Since the aligners cannot be seen, many individuals feel confident and comfortable in pursuing this method of treatment to achieve a better-looking smile.

How will I know if I am a good candidate for Invisalign?

If you have the following conditions, you may be a candidate for Invisalign:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Openbite
  • Crowding of teeth
  • Improper spacing of teething

Your dentist will evaluate your individual concerns and determine if Invisalign is the appropriate method of treatment to improve your specific condition.

What is the process required to attain Invisalign?

A dentist will perform an examination of your mouth and determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign. If you are deemed an appropriate candidate, be sure to find a dentist who is an Invisalign provider. You will be given a consultation to discuss any concerns and questions about the process.  Your dentist will take X-rays and impressions of your teeth, which will be used to create digital 3-D images of your smile. The images created will be used to make custom aligners, as well as an individualized treatment plan, including a projected timeline for your treatment. Your dentist can use special technology in his or her office to provide you with a guided virtual tour of each stage of treatment.

Once your aligners have been created, you will be instructed to wear them daily and to remove them when eating, brushing and flossing. Each set of aligners will be replaced approximately every 2 weeks. You will be required to see your dentist minimally every 6 weeks for occasional checkups and to monitor your progress. In order to maximize the success of your results, dentists recommend that the aligners be worn between 20 and 22 hours a day.

Why choose Invisalign?

Invisalign has become a preferred method of treatment for individuals who seek to improve the appearance of their smile. Invisalign is a successful and cost-effective method used to improve common orthodontic conditions such as crowding, spacing and improper bite. Invisalign is comfortable to wear, virtually invisible and can be removed from your mouth whenever you want. It does not require frequent office visits with a dentist and allows you to still enjoy all the food you want without restrictions.

Traditional orthodontic devices, such as braces, can cause plaque to easily build up and make the process of cleaning your teeth quite arduous. Since Invisalign can be removed, it allows for every day brushing and flossing to be achieved effortlessly.  Invisalign can also help to improve the overall health of your teeth and gums, preventing unwanted periodontal diseases, such as gum disease.

If you are looking to improve the appearance of your smile without the discomfort, expense and unsightly appearance of traditional orthodontic devices, speak to your dentist about using Invisalign.
